Privacy Policy

Cue the Music Man turns a song, mood, artist, or Shazam moment into a playlist you can shape, remix, save, and export to music services. This policy explains what the app collects, what it sends, what stays on your device, and how Cue handles Google user data when you use YouTube Music features.

1. What Cue does

Cue lets you generate playlists from prompts, identify songs with Shazam, preview tracks, connect to Apple Music, connect to YouTube Music, remix playlists into new versions, share playlists, and save and manage playlists. To do that, it uses Apple Music, YouTube Music, Gemini through Firebase AI Logic, local storage on your device, and optional iCloud sync for saved playlists.

2. Information you provide

Cue may process the prompts you type, songs identified through Shazam, playlist titles you edit, remix directions you enter, and playlist data you create in the app.

3. Local and iCloud playlist storage

Cue stores locally: saved playlists and edits, app settings, onboarding state, daily usage counters, playlist lineage metadata, and temporary playback state. Certain sensitive or abuse-resistant state is stored in the iOS Keychain.

If you enable playlist sync, saved playlists and edits may also be stored in your private iCloud storage using CloudKit. If playlist sync is off, saved playlists remain local to the device.

Deleting the app removes the local app copy, but it does not automatically delete playlists that were previously synced to iCloud. You can remove playlists by deleting them in the app, and if sync is off you can separately choose to delete synced iCloud playlist data from Settings.

4. Apple Music

If you grant permission, Cue can check your Apple Music authorization status, search the catalog, resolve tracks, preview songs, and create playlists in your library. It does not access more than it needs to perform those features.

5. Google user data and YouTube Music

If you choose to connect a Google account, Cue accesses Google user data needed to let you view, create, update, and export playlists in YouTube Music. Cue only requests the Google user data and Google API scopes needed for the features you actively use.

If you choose to use YouTube Music or connect a Google account through Cue, your use of those features is also subject to Google's privacy terms, including the Google Privacy Policy.

Data Accessed. Depending on the YouTube Music features you use, Cue may access your Google account identifier, basic profile information associated with the authorized connection, YouTube or YouTube Music playlist metadata, playlist contents, library item identifiers, and information needed to create, modify, or save playlists to your account. Cue does not request access to Gmail, Google Drive files, Google Photos, Google Contacts, or other unrelated Google user data.

Device, Browser, and Similar Technology Disclosure. If you choose to use YouTube Music features, Cue may store, access, or collect information directly or indirectly on or from your device as needed to provide those features. This can include OAuth credentials stored in the iOS Keychain, locally cached YouTube or YouTube Music metadata, playlist identifiers, app storage, temporary files, and similar on-device storage or caching technologies. If you use browser-based Google authorization flows, Google, YouTube, or their service providers may place, access, or recognize cookies, browser storage, cached entries, or similar technologies on your device or browser as part of authentication, security, session management, and service delivery.

Data Usage. Cue uses Google user data only to provide YouTube Music functionality you request, such as matching tracks, showing your playlists, creating, updating, or exporting playlists in your YouTube Music account, and restoring or syncing the music service destination you chose. Cue does not use Google user data for advertising, does not sell Google user data, and does not use Google user data to train generalized AI or machine learning models.

Data Storage & Protection. Cue stores Google OAuth tokens and other sensitive connection credentials securely, such as in the iOS Keychain or another encrypted credential store, and uses them only to make authorized requests on your behalf. If Cue stores cached YouTube Music playlist metadata or track identifiers, it stores only what is reasonably necessary to make the feature work, protects that data using platform security controls, and limits access to the app and service providers that are necessary to operate the feature. Cue does not publicly disclose your Google user data except when required to complete the action you requested or when required by law.

Refresh and Retention. Cue may keep Google OAuth tokens for as long as needed to provide YouTube Music features you have authorized. Other YouTube API data, including cached playlist metadata, playlist item data, video or track identifiers, and YouTube search results used for matching, is deleted or refreshed within 30 calendar days unless a shorter retention period applies. Cue uses reasonable efforts to show the most current YouTube API data available when it displays that data in the app.

Deleting and Revoking Access. You can disconnect your Google account in Cue at any time to stop future access by the app. You can also revoke Cue's access from Google's security settings at Google account connections. To delete stored YouTube-related data in Cue, delete any saved playlists or cached playlist data in the app, disconnect your Google account, and remove the app if you want to delete the remaining local app copy. Previously exported playlists may remain in YouTube Music until you delete them directly in YouTube or YouTube Music. When you ask Cue to delete stored YouTube-related user data or disconnect your Google account in the app, Cue deletes stored Authorized Data as soon as possible and within 7 calendar days. If you revoke access from Google's security settings outside the app, Cue deletes related stored API data after it detects the revoked authorization and within 30 calendar days.

6. Microphone and Shazam

If you use Shazam, Cue requests microphone access to briefly listen and identify a song. That audio is used only for song recognition. If microphone access is denied, Shazam-based identification will not work.

7. AI generation

Cue generates playlists using Gemini through Firebase AI Logic. When you generate or remix a playlist, your prompt and the relevant playlist context are sent to that provider so the playlist can be created.

Cue does not claim ownership of your prompts, but third-party providers may process them according to their own terms and privacy policies.

8. Help improve Cue training samples

Cue offers an optional setting called Help improve Cue. If you turn it on, Cue may upload a limited subset of generated playlist sessions so Cue can improve playlist quality and evaluate future playlist-generation changes.

This setting is off by default and is stored locally on the device where you enable it. It does not automatically sync across your devices through iCloud. Turning it off stops future training-sample collection from that device, but it does not automatically delete samples that were already uploaded before you turned it off.

If enabled, Cue may upload the original prompt, the generated playlist track list, limited generation metadata such as the provider or model used, and quality-related metadata such as track resolution counts and duplicate-artist counts. Cue only uploads samples from qualifying generated playlists that meet Cue's internal quality thresholds.

Uploaded training samples are sent to Cue's backend with abuse protections such as Firebase App Check and request validation. Cue uses uploaded training samples to improve Cue and related playlist-generation features, not for advertising or for building a general-purpose user profile.

9. Firebase and App Check

Cue uses Firebase for Gemini-related functionality and App Check. App Check is used to help protect certain app requests from abuse. Cue does not use Firebase Analytics or crash reporting.

10. Share links

Cue can generate share links and share cards for playlists. Shared links may encode playlist information needed to reopen or remix a playlist in the app. If you share a playlist, the recipient may be able to see the playlist title, prompt context, and other information included in the shared payload.

11. What Cue does not do

Cue does not sell your personal information, run in-app advertising, maintain its own user account system, or collect personal information beyond what is needed to make the app work.

12. Data sharing

Cue shares information only as needed: with Apple for Apple Music features, with Google/Firebase for Gemini features and App Check, with Google or YouTube services if you choose to use YouTube Music features, with Cue's own backend if you opt in to Help improve Cue training samples, and with Shazam when identifying songs.

13. Data retention

Locally stored data stays on your device until you delete it or remove the app. Some Keychain items may persist across reinstall on iOS.

Google user data cached by Cue is retained only as long as reasonably necessary to provide the feature, maintain the active connection, comply with legal obligations, or resolve security and abuse issues.

Locally queued Help improve Cue training samples are retained on-device for a limited period and may be removed after upload or expiry. Uploaded training samples may be kept for as long as reasonably necessary to improve Cue, evaluate quality, maintain service integrity, and address security or abuse issues.

14. Your choices

You can deny Apple Music or microphone access, avoid using share features, disconnect a linked Google account, leave Help improve Cue turned off, turn Help improve Cue off later, or stop using the app at any time. Revoking permissions will disable the features that depend on them.

15. Children’s privacy

Cue the Music Man is not directed to children under 13 and is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children.

16. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated over time. If the policy changes materially, the updated version will be posted with a new effective date.
